The byproducts of the modern, technology-driven world are carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, and they are the leading cause of the current global warming crisis. The U.N. scientific panel of 2007 concluded that the evidence of global warming is  unequivocal.. Also, in agreement with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the U.N. scientific panel supports the claim that humanity is playing a role in the warming (New York Times). The evidence is all around and irrefutable; the Earth is warming: the only question that remains is what to do about it. America is a world leader, and so far we have done too little of signifi cance to mitigate this problem; it is up to the American people, as a concerned public and electorate, to bring about the changes necessary to spare the planet from global warming's potentially disastrous consequences. While many Americans do not fully understand global warming, or the processes behind it, we all notice changes that are occurring in the environment around us.
